Celebrate Local Food!
The Greater Sudbury Food Policy Council is pleased to offer a Local Food Label to help shoppers identify and support local food producers.
The label is available to locally owned, independent businesses registered in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts that grow, raise, harvest or process food locally.
Your products may qualify if they:
- Are grown, raised or harvested in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts; or
- Are made or processed locally (e.g., cooked, baked, pickled, fermented or transformed from its natural state), using local ingredients whenever they are available.
You don’t need to use local ingredients in every product.
How to Use the Label
The label may be used to identify eligible products in stores, at farmers’ markets, farm stands and in promotional photos.
A few simple guidelines help shoppers recognize local food:
- Use the official label materials provided by the Food Policy Council.
- Display the label clearly beside eligible products.
- If a display includes both local and non-local products, clearly identify which products qualify.
- Use the label only for eligible food products, and don’t alter its design.
The label is not intended for alcohol, tobacco or cannabis products, or to suggest endorsement of a business or products that don’t qualify.
The Food Policy Council may contact you if clarification about label use is needed.
Let’s Celebrate Our Region
The food we enjoy comes from lands and waters cared for by Anishinaabe peoples since time immemorial. We encourage everyone to support and learn about the First Nations of our region and their food traditions and initiatives.
