GSFPC Co-Chair speaks to council in support of city staff recommendations to incorporate policies supportive of local and urban food production (like community gardens) in the new Official Plan: “Urban Food Touted“, Sudbury Star, March 5, 2013.
A pre-cursor to the council involving some of the same members submitted suggestions during the Official Plan public input period in early 2012. Those suggestions laid the groundwork for the current changes recommended by staff, also assisting was a new push by the provincial government to consider local food in planning efforts.
The Greater Sudbury Food Policy Council (GSFPC) was formed in early 2013 to support the development of an equitable, vibrant and sustainable food system for the City of Greater Sudbury through research, advocacy, and fostering communication amongst food system stakeholders. This website will allow GSFPC to both meet that purpose and to raise awareness of the council and its activities. Read on or click follow for more information on the council’s activities and membership. Information on current policy issues we are investigating, our upcoming strategic plan, and regular council meeting minutes will be posted to this site.
